I've got an 03 Vic LX and I need to lower the front end about an inch. Measuring from the ground to the highest point of the fender, my front end is about 1/2 an inch higher than my rear end. I'd like to rake it in the other direction. I'm going into the front end to replace all 4 balljoints and change the strut/shock. I'm wondering how much spring I should cut to lower the car no more than 1 inch. I'm not concerned about increasing the spring rate a little; I just want to know if anyone has cut springs in the front of this year range Vic, and if so, how much did you cut, how low did it go? |

I wouldn't cut any spring. The ride gets too harsh REAL FAST. Check the rear. I'm willing to bet they are wearing down and loosing support.
I own a 97 P71 that raked rearwards. When I changed my rear springs, it balanced.

i agree with jdmeaux check the rear springs shocks. their probly wearing out. if you replace them and you still want to lower the front then i would jack up the front of the cartake the front tire off and sit the hubs on jackstands at normal ride hight remove the shock heat up the front springs whit a torch. becareful not to catch anything on fire and as the spring gets hot you can push on the bumper of the car gently and always measure how far you have gone. you probly need to do some measuring of the front end before jacking up the front end of the car and every so offten as you lower it. unitl you get the rid hight that you are looking for. then put everything back to geather after every thing cools. |

Gotta get the front lower. The rear is high enough, and I'd like to lower all 4 corners at some point. As to putting heat to a spring, that is something I won't do. From what I understand, heating and cooling a spring like that takes or alters the spring steel temper, which is very specific. I'm willing to cut a little, but not heat. |

I have a 2006 C.V. and I\\'m working on lowering it myself....I have contacted coilsprings.com in Kansas, but they need the ford part#s off the stock springs to proceed with actual quote. trouble is, the little paper tags off the front springs are both gone. here's what I have (on my 100% stock C.V.):
. rear Ford part numbers: 3W73 5560 CA from the paper tags still on each rear spring.
. front numbers: DSL4A 18-05 (stamped into spring in Pink) but I need a ford # similar to the rear spring number above.
. spring codes from the drivers door tag: BB 22
If I can get this answered (what is part#s on front springs), it would be the same answer for this guy's thread too......the prelim quote from coilsprings.com was approx $200 for the pair of rear spring so it\\'s not too pricey and what I like is I could always put back the original springs (instead of cutting them) to get back to stock.
Does anyone know of a \\"coil spring cross reference chart\\" on the web to match this \\"BB 22\\" code back to a stock ford part #??? ......or a way to cross ref this DSL4A 18-05???
thanks |

I'm working on my front end this Thursday, and last time I looked, I've still got my spring part # tags attached. My car is a 2003, so if the same springs are used, I can post my numbers for you. |
