Hi, my heater core seems to be leaking engine coolant inside the car beneath the passenger side dashboard. First I nticed a coolant smell in the car. I pulled back the carpeting and saw coolant on the floor and eventually on the driveway. Can someone help with instructions to replace the heater core?

Thanks for the help.

Try getting yourself a copy of the Haynes manuals, or Chilton. Most auto parts stores handle them. Or go look at your local library.

Also, search online. crownvic.net has several help articles.

Basically it involves moving most of your dash, parts of the a/c duct works underneath the dash, removing the heater hoses from the engine compartment, and then removing the core. And installation is just the reverse.

But getting a manual is always a good idea.

before u go doing all that, go to autozone and ask for a bottle of blue devil, it repairs headgaskets, leaking intakes and most important for u heatercores. it works believe me, i had a slight rip in my head gasket, everytime i cranked it up it would smoke like hell and then go awake till i turned it off and back on again, but i used the stuff and fixed that prob and the leaking heater core. my floor used to get wet to and i dint have heat, but now the leak stop and i have heat. tearing that dash apart is a pain believe me, im a mechanic. the blue devil runs about 60 bucks a bottle but its defintely worth it

Thanks a bunch that sounds like a good idea. Any idea how long it lasts, meaning will I eventually have to perform surgery on dash?
