Where is the adjustment for the ac belt?I have looked and can't find where yo sent the tention for the belt.Is there and adjust on the idler?

I'm not familiar enough with the '87 model to know, but if it's a serpentine belt, there's a spring-loaded tensioner that automatically keeps tension on the belt. If it's a multiple v-belt system, then there should be a mounting bolt on the compressor or perhaps the alternator that you can loosen so you can move the appropriate accessory to tighten the v-belt.
If you are going to be doing much maintenance on your car by yourself, I strongly recommend a Haynes, Clymer or Chilton manual for the car.

Most v-belts used a 1/2 inch deflection at the longest part of the belt as MAX. Too tight and the belt wears prematurely;too little, and it squeaks when you accelerate.
Serpentine belts use tensioners to keep the belts tight. If the tension isn't correct, you get the same problems.
Be sure to use Belt Tight spray over once in a while to stop any slippage.
