I own a '03 Crwn vic ex cop car! It's pretty fast, at some point and time i am planning after market parts for the engine! But as of now, i am not too happy with the rear gears. I think it's a stock rear end, not a posi? When I punch the gas from a dead stop, it feels like only passenger side tire spins? I look at the rear end face plate and there is only a bar code sticker there which reads 033705! On a positive note the rear end housing looked very impressive, a tank/mini fort knox. Can I turn this rear end into a posi and can i put 373's in it or do i have too buy a whole new rear end? I am a proud ford man. thanks

Check out the websites www.crownvic.us, www.crownvic.net, and www.p71interceptor.com for lots more info.

I believe most P71s came from the factory with 3.27 rear-ends, although some did have 3.08. They were all open-end (non-posi). The 06s and up did offer 3.55.

Any decent rear-end shop can install 3.55s and posi units. You may want to look and order the entire rear-end rebuilt with the Ford True Traction posi unit installed, new bearings, 31 spline axles, and reinforced cover. It will cost you about the same as having most shops rebuilt yours.

IMHO the 3.55 gives you the umph most people want without sucking up too much fuel. Going to 3.73s usually means re-tuning the computer. Read the article at crownvic.net for more info.
