Hello to all, I just registered with this site, and is my first time posting. My problem is just that I have code P1451 keeping me from getting my car inspected. It is a 1997 crown victoria, with 160,000 miles, and the CEL comes on always after the second start after erasing the code. My question is does an electrical fault in the wiring to the canister purge solenoid, or solenoid failure,or a bad PCM have to be the only reason this fault would be set? I am lucky to have a 97 Grand Marquis and I have been swapping parts out, and as to present have changed the charcoal canister, purge solenoid, gas tank ( along with the fuel vapor control valve ), and had no change in either car. . Tomorrow I will swap the PCM to see if that is the problem. Just wanted to know if I am missing a component, or if a bad gas cap, or hole in the venting tubing can cause the code. Lastly, I verified 12 volts at the solenoid connector, and I had 38 ohms. The few inches of exposed wiring from the sleeving at the solenoid end, and from the trunk grommet look good. I am not the greatest troubleshooter, hence the swapping parts, but this has cost me zero money as of today.

I'm not sure of the precedent code (P1451) but on my 4.6 L engine on 1991 Lincoln TC would do the same after fixing & clearing other sensor issues.

I found a mention of clearing the EGR Channels (91-97's vehicles...probably more)
Did more research...finally tackled the project...sure enough it was full of carbon deposits

Re-assembled...it's working wonderful...nice smooth idle & lots of recovered power...
No more MIL's.....

Hope this help you...

A lot of the codes you get are of general nature. Always research online as to what the code means. Sometimes the cure isn't even what the code says. I had a vacuum leak that was giving a code of a bad O2 sensor. Five minutes time was all I spent locating the broken hose, which was a lot cheaper than a new O2 sensor. ALWAYS RESEARCH the possible cause..
