No noises... at all it just cut off.... It will crank over very strong and acts like it wants to start... I can hear the fuel pump in the tank come on.... I chekced the fuel shut off which in the correct position. I smelled the gas cap and it smells like gas and a little like paint...
2005 4.6 police vehicle 89009 miles the vehicle was sitting for 1.5 years. never started. They finally got around to getting the vehicle ready to sell... They added little fuel and gas treatment and jumped it off. The vehicle started right up... Now I come along a few days later and I buy the vehicle. I got a new battery for it and drove it down the road... vehicle is very fast screams like a cat.... total miles drived since I brought it is about 15... is there a way I can add fuel directly to the system to see if it could be fuel system? what else should I check for...

if the pump whirrs then you have power there, that half the problem solved. i would hook a fuel pressure gauge to it and see what your pressure is, any thing below 45 psi and its time to get a new pump. i have been a mechanic for 12 years now and have yet to see a filter plugged to the point of restriction. start with the fuel pressure. fords also have this thing wheres if you have 11.999 volts it will crank but not start, only until the pcm recives 12+ volts will it fire. another place to look is the crank sensor and cam sensors, if one or the other flakes out=no start. the best way is to hook a scan tool up and look for an rpm reading whilst cranking( i know not every one has a multi thousand dollar scan tool). if you have good fuel and spark then id be suspecting the crank sensor. |
