Okay I know this is a total noob question and I did a search here and on crownvic.net but did not seem to find an answer.
Is there any way to tell what intake you have on the motor by looking at something visible without removing the intake? |

What do you mean by what intake you have? Most have the all nylon composite intake which is the one that cracks and leaks all the time. Im not sure what yr theyt started using aluminum crossover ones but i think it 06 or somethin. Just look where your tstat housing is...if its mounted on aluminum you have the good one and if its plastic then its the composit one. |

Well, just about all intakes for the Crown Victoria were made of "plastic" or phenol because of weight and heat disbursement. Up to 1999, the engines were non-PI or non "Performance Improved". In 1999, the heads were redesigned for improved performance (PI) and Ford began to install them on all their 4.6L engines..
Ford did produce an aluminum version of the intake back in 1992 and 1993, but trying to find one is next to impossible. Many had a tendency to crack and weren't repaired.
Hopefully this answers your question.

Cool thanks guys!
Sorry should have been a little more specific I do have the one with the water passage made from aluminum. Just wanted to make sure that was the one I wanted. I kept reading about them leaking coolant and it was freaking me out a bit. |
