Well, today was my first full day to own a 1994 Bronco 5.8 liter, 68k miles. Pulled the top off successfully, life is good.

Turn the ignition off, pull the key, open the door... *ding ding ding* theft light blinks. Wiggle the ignition a little, chime turns off, no more theft light. Well, that happened about five times today, and it seems to be getting worse.

I got home, and fiddled with the damn ignition for at least 10 minutes, tryin to hit that sweet spot, where it clicks off, and the key comes out. I pull the key, open the door... *ding ding ding* Damnit.

Fiddle with the igniton (key out), which now clicks between two positions, one is the right one, one is in-between correct off position and engine start position. Finally, get that damn sweet spot again, and feel better.

$hit! Windows down!!! Put key in, but it now feels weird. On the rotatable part of the ignition switch, the two squares that go on the outside of key, which are supposed to align with the key, are about an 1/8 off now. Now it seems the the outside part of the ignition switch can rotate about 10 degrees without effecting the key. About 10 minutes later, i get it aligned correctly, after inserting and taking the key out numerous times, I finally get it to where i can start the vehicle again, and roll the windows up.

Now, you probably already know what I'm worried about, but if not, here it is: #1 it's getting harder and harder to start the vehicle, and much harder to get the ignition switch in the correct place to where the theft warning comes on when i turn the engine off. #2 Now that the ignition switch clicks between two different positions, I am worried that it's only a matter of time before it can be clicked all the way to igniton position, or radio only position (I don't want my vehicle to be able to be started without the key, for obvious reasons). #3 In the even that i need to start the vehicle quickly, or shut it off, I have doubts that I'll be able to find the sweet spot to start it or shut it off properly.

Do I need a new ignition switch, or am I missing something??

Get a new Ignition Switch and change it out.

Follow the directions with the new Key Switch.

Done and done, thanks for the help! The new switch was $35 from Napa, and was no problem to install.

To fix or stop your DING!

There is a squack box right under the dash over the break pedal,
Open the door with the key in to find it. Take the plug out of the top
and it will also stop your belt chime warning,
The down side?
Keys sometimes get locked in. But damn I hated the chime.

Thats not dented, It's customized
