I have a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquise with 110k. I love this car. I noticed a small leak on the driveway and the power steering started dropping its level. It is hard to tell were it is leaking because it is so slow. What is the more common issue the pump or hoses.. ?? is there a way of pinpointing the leak.

Most commonly it is one of the hoses. However it can be where the reservoir connects to the pump. The seals in the pump and the steering box can fail but it is rare and usually quite messy.

rom my experience, the are several steps to stop power steering fluid leaks. The first step is to find out where the leak is in the hose or gasket. Then, with power steering fluid, pour in an additive called stop leak. If this doesn't work, you can purchase gasket sealant or replace all the gaskets. Lastly, you can replace the pressure hose if the leak is in the hose.
