Hi Everybody!
Let me say it right up front: When it comes to cars and mechanical things,
I am dumb as dirt.
So if my question(s) sound "dumb", it's b/c I am!
Anyhow, today the light on the car came on saying that the air suspension needed to be checked. Mom was driving. I looked in the car's manual and it sounded like the car wouldn't drive as well with an air suspension problem, but wasn't necessarily an automatic DANGER! So went on to the grocery store and I noticed that on the way home, the light was NOT on! We have an oil warning light that comes on all the time too (has ever since we've owned the car), but there's NEVER been an oil problem with the car, thank goodness! That car only had 30k miles on her when we bought her in 2008 and now has a tad over 60k on her. We keep the oil changed regularly. The only real problems we've had since we've had her is that we had to have the alternator replaced and a new battery and a new windshield wiper motor. The poor girl needs a paint job, but the truth is, we just can't afford it. I hate it though! I am on disability and Mom is on social security. It was a true blessing when we found the Mercury. We got her for $6000. Mom was able to work a little more then, but now we have to be a lot more thrifty than even then. I researched cars before we bought any cars and I saw how reliable the Crown Vics and Merc. Marqs were. That's how we had ended up with a 1988 Grand Marquis at one time. She was a GREAT car!!! When we traded her in, she was still a great car as far as the engine and transmission went, but everything else was shot!
Well, I've strayed a long way from the initial question! LOL! Forgive me! I may be stupid about cars, but I LOVE them! Especially the Grand Marquises! And I won't even get started on all the classic cars I drool over!
So what would you guys suggest I do? I am scared b/c our finances are low and there's not really any mechanics in my town that I know I can truly trust to not take advantage of us since we are ignorant women. ANY ADVICE would be MUCH appreciated!
Thanks to all for your patience at reading my long post (and likely boring as well!) and for any answers you may give!

Does the compressor come on when it should?
Does it shut off when it should?
Does the rear end sag?
The quick and easy fix is to swap in coils from a non air suspension car if the cost to replace the failing parts is too much. |
