So I've read through many threads over the years, and this site has helped my friends and I solve many issues... but this problem I'm having is so troubling, I had to finally sign up and post a thread. First off, thanks to everyone on here who has contributed time and knowledge to helping solve issues for other peoples vehicles, this site and you people are truly a blessing!
Alright let's get down to biz...
3 days ago, lower 2 brake lights and license plate light, randomly stop working.
I've already replaced the Brake On/Off Switch, the LCM, the MFS, and ALL Bulbs, Fuses, Relays (that I know of at least)... yet still nothing has fixed the problem.
2001 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor:
-3rd Brake Light Works (Top)
-Vehicle Running Lights (minus license plate light), Blinkers, Hazards, Headlights, ALL Working.
- BOO (volt tested to confirm), LCM, MFS, Bulbs, Fuses, Relays, Replaced.
-Positive & Negative terminals have been removed/cleaned & tightened back onto the battery.
-License Plate Bulb & Brake Bulbs Replaced with New
I'm currently sitting here on my laptop, in the car, with the MFS off the column... I just tested power to the light-green/red-stripe wire (on bigger connector), and it has constant power (weather foot is on break or not), also the orange/white-stripe wire (on smaller connector) has constant power as well.
Should I be getting power to any of the other wires, or maybe when brake is applied?
Anyways, I could really use the help... I am fully capable of "ghetto" rigging the license plate light and lower 2 brake lights to work... I'd just prefer to fix them the right way first.
Thanks for reading this, hope the info helps |

I didn't study your problem extensively, so I'll just throw this out there. The third brake light is in the rear window and works. The other three lights are in the trunk lid. The trunk lid bends at the hinge. It's possible there's a break in one of the wires at that point. Just a thought. Good luck! |

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately the licence plate light is on the trunk, and the 2 brake lights are on the body. I'm literally stumped. Just pulled out the back seat and everything in the trunk, then checked for broken/disconnected wires, etc.
Still nothing |

Yeah!!! I'm sitting here on my couch a day later and realized that the tail lights don't go up with the trunk lid. Sorry about that...Don't know what else to tell you except it's probably something simple like that. Good luck again! |
