Notes: How many 428CJ Ranchero were made? Pure joy to drive. But has been setting past few years due to front end damage. Had taken out of storage at fathers farm. Brakes acted funny but seemed to be ok. Brake fluid was down but filled it up. Let it warmed up. Dad has a lower and upper drive that form a V when coming in to his house. These are very long lanes. I headed toward the road on the lower lane, nailed it hard in first and second let up and started to slow down to go onto road. Brakes worked but felt funny. Went up the road to Dad's other lane. Hit it hard with all I had. And the CJ ROARED I had a smile on my face from ear to ear. Taking it hard through first then hard through second. Let up on the gas and the smile that I had on my face went away fast. The throttle cable was stuck wide open. I hit the key and the brakes, and the brakes went to the floor. I had gone into 3rd, I down shifted into 1st. With Dad's garage coming up fast. I had two choices take the first drive to the left and go past the garage and machine shed or the smaller one going left from the garage. Did I state that there is a telephone pole between the drives. I couldn't make the first turn so I turned the steering as hard as I could. I flew between the telephone pole and garage. And was hoping my luck would hold out. Not that day. The maching shed sets back from the garage. I was hoping to shoot past the front of the maching shed and go into the barn yard. Not this day. I hit the only spot I could have and not cause major damage to the building. I T Boned the entrance on the left. I had to climb down I had ran over 3, 55gal drumes and a tire on a rim. that had been to the right of the entrance. So there I was with my Ranchero up on drums and a tire that was standing straight up. I went inside, Dad was watching NASCAR, I asked how the races were because he had just missed the best one he could have ever seen. Dad said he had heard the whole thing. And when He saw me using a floor jack setting on blocks so I could get the jack up high enough to get the barrels out from under the Ranchero. he never said anything about me hitting his building. (Posts to a overhead door for tractors are the same as telephone poles.) I have a restored 69 Mustang Conv. that I did. So I plan on restoring my Ranchero, I have a extra hood and grill but I need a bumper and quarter panels. I bought a parts ranchero but it has worst rust then my CJ. I am looking for quarter panels and front and rear bumpers. To buy or to trade for. Brought spring of 1992 to replace my 69 R Code 4sp Mustang Conv. that was burned to the ground in a storage fire while I was station in Germany.
