01/27/08Modification Turbo System
A modification to the Turbo system has been decided. The location of the turbos has changed to a semi remote type system. The physical size of the engine and limited size of the engine bay made locating the turbos the the space under the front portion of the bed and under the removable floor board on the early Ranchero's a real advantage. The location allows for a custom double wall and insulated stainless exhaust to retain heat to the turbos while allowing standard engine components to remain in place i.e. the efficient stock exahust manifolds, power steering A/C compressor etc.The Intake distance is no further than that when running and intercooler. and exhaust after the turbo will be less than 2 feet for no back pressure allowing for minimal turbo lag. A separate lubrication system will be used for the two turbos. The system will be of the draw through design to use many of the advantages of that type of system i.e. no pop off valves, much quieter operation and greater compressor speed during cruise operation allowing quicker turbo spool up. and no compressor surge when the throttle is closed thus retaining compressor speed. Placement of the air filter is high and in a cold air area on each side of the bed via side scoops to be incorporated into the body
