08/08/08 | Repair | | New Ball joints and Left trailing arms Had RMF replace the ball joints and left trailing arms, which were bent. | 330.00 |
07/23/08 | Repair | | Picked up from RMF I picked the car up from RMF today. The engine is finished for now. I'm taking it back in next friday for new ball joints. This time they replaced quite a bit of the fuel lines, fixed the fuel lines, and tuned up the valves, timing and carburetor and such. | 280.00 |
07/18/08 | Miscellaneous | | Check on the car Stopped by RMF about 5 o'clock to check out how my car was coming. They lengthened the throttle cable and fixed some fuel kinks and did some other stuff, and it currently is sounding great. I'm supposed to stop by on Monday to check out what kind of dent I've made in my wallet so far and see what I want to do next. | 0.00 |
07/17/08 | Miscellaneous | | Sold extra GlassPack Muffler I sold an extra muffler that came with the car when I bought it. | -24.00 |
07/16/08 | Repair | | Left at RMF Dropped my car off at RMF Inc. after work to have them tune it up and finish getting it running right. | 0.00 |
07/14/08 | Repair | | Replaced fuel lines and Fuel Filter I went to Bow-wow and got 4 feet of fuel line and replaced the line to between the connector under the car and the fuel pump and also from the fuel pump to the fuel filter. I also replaced the fuel filter (Fram G4164) from Schucks. I also replaced a wire connector that I knocked off that was corroded with a new wire connector from Ace (14-16 gauge female .250). It is running better, I could drive it, but not perfectly. I'm taking it to RMF Inc on Wednesday (7/16) to have it looked at and have the front end worked on, and finish up the engine work. | 18.06 |
07/13/08 | Miscellaneous | | Messed with the fuel line I blew the fuel line out with the air hose. I need to get a new fuel line to go to the fuel pump, the old one is bad, kept cracking, the rubber is worn out. I'm taking to a shop sometime next week to have the fuel problem looked at, and also have them check out the front end and see what's wrong there. | 0.00 |
07/12/08 | Maintenance | | Oil Change The oil was low, so I took all the old oil out and replaced it with Royal Purple.
I also put about 80% of a can of Sea Foam in the gas tank and the rest in the oil. | 31.00 |
07/10/08 | Damage | | Fuel Problem Returns... So on the way home, the fuel stopped pumping again. I think this time I'll look into the fuel pump on the carb. I had to stop 4 times and allow the bubble in the fuel filter to refuel. | 0.00 |
07/06/08 | Repair | | Started sanding the hood since the hood is fiberglass and a different color from the main body of the car, being painted, and then badly spray painted over, I started sanding it down tonight to get the old paint off. Put an hour in or two in, Idk, in between things. All by hand, I really need like a palm sander, it's slow. But I'll have it done in a few days. And I lost a hood pin. So now I need new hood pins and new hood latches.
*UPDATE* So after looking at the hood and having a guy from KC auto paint look at it, I think I need a new hood. The old one is heavily cracked, and would need a ton of work. | 5.75 |
07/03/08 | Maintenance | | Cleaned the distributor points I cleaned the distributor points and inside of the distributor with a piece of fine grit emery cloth. | 6.00 |
06/30/08 | Miscellaneous | | Sold Fenders, Bug eye kit, and Double tube bumpers I sold the original fenders from my car, as well as the bug eye front end and double tube bumpers on craigslist for $200. These came with the car when I bought it. The guy who bought them may be building me a roll cage in the near future. | -200.00 |
06/23/08 | Repair | | Fixed rear bumper and finished refurbishing exhaust My dad and I tried to put the single tub bumper on my car, it wouldn't go, then we finally figured out that there was an old mounting bracket broken off and stuck in the end of the left hand leg of the bumper. So we cut off about a half inch of the leg, so we could get to the broken bracket. We then heated the leg with the torch and used a variety of tools to try to get the piece out, including breaking an almost new screwdriver. We finally got it to fall down inside, filed a little bit around the edges, and then got it back out and pulled and pried and coaxed it the rest of the way out. Spent about an hour just getting that out. On the good side, now it goes on. I also bought a can of Ace heat paint today, and finished up painting the baja exhaust, stinger, and bendback for the glasspack that I am trying to sell. | 6.50 |
06/22/08 | Miscellaneous | | Prep Baja style exhaust to sell The old baja style exhaust that was on it was rusty, so I sanded it down and painted it with rust oleum stuff, tomorrow I'll paint it with thermal primer.
I also realized a while back that the cutting brakes are not hooked up, but looked today and all the lines have been run. so I'll need to have those hooked up. | 15.06 |
06/10/08 | Repair | | Fixed kink in gas line and replaced the Fuel Tank Sender We finally got under the front of the car under the gas tank and found a kink in the gas line. This was because when I replaced the gas tank I had to hook it up before setting it down, then when I set it down, the line kinked. We also replaced the fuel tank sender because the old one was corroded from sitting in the bad gas and worked intermittently. We also fixed the wiring on the left rear tail light as the brake light and running lights were not lighting properly. | 27.56 |
06/09/08 | Miscellaneous | | Switched Fuel Pumps My dad went to Bow-Wow and they gave him a second fuel pump for free to try to figure out the fuel problem, the problem stayed the same. | 0.00 |
05/31/08 | Repair | | Replaced the power valve in the carburetor Replaced the power valve (DG/DF series) in the carburetor, it was rather corroded. | 16.43 |
05/30/08 | Repair | | Replaced the fuel pump Replaced the fuel pump, still trying to figure out why the engine isn't getting gas to it. | 27.56 |
05/29/08 | Repair | | Replaced the fuel filter Today my dad blew out the fuel lines and replaced the fuel filter in an attempt to figure out why exactly the engine is not getting any gas to it. The battery is currently charging as he ran it dead while fiddling with it earlier. | 1.86 |
05/28/08 | Maintenance | | Replaced the spark plugs We put the rest of the spark plugs in and started it, made a lot of difference, ran rather well. Then it started having problems, it isn't getting enough fuel through the line. We're gonna try buying a new fuel filter tomorrow. | 0.00 |
05/27/08 | Repair | | fixed the spark plug threads Since something was messed up in the left rear spark plug hole, my dad and a friend worked on it today while I was at work, and took some of the stuff off in the way and retapped the hole. I also bought three new spark plugs, which we will put in tomorrow. | 16.33 |
05/26/08 | Miscellaneous | | unsuccesfully Cleaned the old gas tank Went to the car wash and tried to clean the crap out of the gas tank, didn't really work, tried muriatic acid too, that didn't really work either. | 1.50 |
05/26/08 | Modification | | Replaced the gas tank Since the cleaning didn't really work too well, we went and bought a used gas tank at VW parts Idaho. It was from a 1968 Bug. I got home and cleaned it up a bit, much cleaner than the one that came off of it. I also made sure the float and gauge worked and cleaned all of the hardware for the gas line and then put it all back together again. | 25.00 |
05/26/08 | Maintenance | | Cleaned the spark plugs We took the spark plugs out, looked newer but were rather dirty. The one in the back on the left didn't want to go back in so we'll have to retap the hole. I also went and bought a new plug (NGK B6HS) because we lost one of the screw on tops. | 2.11 |
05/26/08 | Modification | | Moved the Tailight and fender Since the rear fenders and tailights didn't line up, I moved the right tailight so it was sitting on the fender the same as the left one, and then moved the left fender so it lined up with the right one. Looks a lot better now that they're straight. | 0.00 |
05/24/08 | Repair | | Cleaned the carburetor and put a carb kit in. As the previous owner had left gas in it since 2005, the carburetor was rather gummed up, even thought it was a brand new carburetor 6 months ago. I went and got some Chem-Dip at Autozone ($20 a gallon) and a Carburetor kit at Bow-Wow ($31) for the Weber 2 barrel that's on it. We removed the carb, took it apart, cleaned everything in the Chem Dip for about an hour, and put it back together, with some of the parts from the Carb kit. Since the Carb was rather new, none of the parts really needed to be replaced, so the kit was probably unnecessary, however the cleaning was absolutely necessary because it was horrendously nasty. I also took the fuel pump off and checked to make sure it was good and clear, and it was a little stiff, but not much, so I lubricated it up and stuck it back on. The carburetor still needs to be adjusted and tuned, but it is running a lot better. | 53.00 |
05/23/08 | Repair | | Removed the gas tank We took the gas tank out and emptied the bad gas out of it, we also tried to get the engine running on new gas straight from a gas can, but we will need to clean the fuel pump and put a carburetor kit in because gas is not getting to one of the barrels. | 16.00 |
05/23/08 | Modification | | Removed the hood brackets since it has a fiberglass hood, the old hood brackets were useless, so I took them out. As well as a few other useless under the hood items. | 0.00 |
05/22/08 | Miscellaneous | | Trailered it and brought it home We finally got over with a trailer and picked up the car and got it home so we can work on it here with all the right tools and such. As well as finally exchanging money. | 1,450.00 |
