Notes: |
Got free from a friend of a friend, towed to friends place, starter cylenoid , radiator hose, install rear driveshaft that was with it, new battery and drove it home... had blown front diff-spider gears.
Now 2 years and almost $5000 later I have rebuilt the front axle from hub to hub, got a '79 parts truck, and converted to a 'half cab' pickup. Have all parts on hand or almost here to rebuild the 8.8 rear, the trans and do the seals in the transfer case. New 33" Hankook Dynopro MTs and chrome steelie rims with baby moon caps. |

Maintenance & Modification Logs
Date | Type | Mileage | Title / Description | $ Amount | 10/23/10 | Repair | | power steering pump installed over filled it , and had to work air from the system, but it works like a dream... smooooh! | 0.00 | 10/21/10 | Repair | | ps pump pulley swap Got my pulleys swapped today after buying a $30 puller... but it was so easy, I forgot the cost a moment after it was done... soooo much easier. | 30.00 | 10/14/10 | Repair | | power steering pump removed
I pulled my leaking power steering pump off the bronco today. Hoses were tight and not leaking, but it still dripped, and at times streamed fluid off the bottom of it. Pretty sure it is leaking from the resivoir housing meets the pump itself; While pulling it I realized that the tin outer housing will spin on the pump itself. That can't be good.
Got one thats identical to it on my 73 parts truck, went and pulled it too. But the pulley is smaller and offset too far from the housing... Gonna swap pulleys if i can. | 0.00 | 10/08/10 | Repair | | front clip work front fender swap and grill/core support work
Well, today for me has to be preempted by what I did Tues.... Rear-ended a guy in traffic(my fault... got distracted. No one hurt, slow 10mph hit... minimal damage all around. Cr@p happens, life goes on... ) clipped his rear left corner with my front right corner, I almost got turned in time. Wreaked havoc with my nice straight fender/grill shell/ grill that i just got put on a couple months ago... Totaled the fender, and technically the grill shell too.
So, this afternoon I spent some time with a 6' CAT bar straightening out my bumper, grill shell, and the core support. pulled the mangled fender off; Its amazing how easy it is to get to all those bolts that hold it to the grill shell if you not worrying about bending it... just un bolt the back and pull it out, stand between fender and truck and pull the inner bolts (I could have cried having to do that).
Put back the stock fender that i had previously swapped out... The grill shell is torn beyond repair in a couple spots, but is perfectly functional for now.
Going to need to do a full tear down of the front and change the core support too... I can straighten it, but not on the truck, so I'll just put the spare on and straighten this one for the other truck later. But I'm putting that off till this fiasco is a little less fresh in my mind.
Right now it still looks better than it did before i did the front clip a couple months ago, but not as good as it did after... I can live with the half step for a while. gonna spray some fast flames on it this weekend so I don't have 1 flame-less fender.
Funny, it took me a while to get those good fenders to swap onto it, got them on, then bought another truck that needs front fenders... Just bought a parts truck for that with good front fenders on it... And Bam!(literally...) I now need one for the bronco again. Its Utterly Rediculous how many front fenders I'm going through.
