clapped out stock 1979 351M that just keeps on running with little to no oil pressure, a rod knock at low RPM's and run hot so many times I thought it was a steam engine. |
Drivetrain: |
C6/NP205, D44 high pinion front and 9" under a 1979 Super Cab long bed frame that has been shortened for the 1972 body and long bed. Rear wheels positioned so I would not have to have a driveshaft made for her, I'm cheap! |
Notes: |
I bought this truck as a 2wd fixer upper from a junkyard with a knocking engine for a $100 and drove it to the shop a few blocks away. I rebuilt the engine into a 390 with a crank and rod swap, flat tops, pulling camshaft and HV oil pump. I drove it for several years unitl I got a newer truck with A/C. I bought a 1979 Super Cab from a friend and it was totally shot as far as the body, My '72 had a shot frame as it had been welded several times under the cab due to frozen rear shocks or something, I don't know, I got tired of rewelding it every year. I took the '79 4x4 frame and slid it under the body of my '72 and went from there to make a 1972 F-150 4x4 thatv I use at my Grandfathers' in NE Arkansas |

100_1212.JPG 312 hits | 84.06 KB | Posted: 11/24/12 Once re-spot welded, the column is just as strong as stock and it fit the 72 cab with no problems from this point on. I also used the wiring harness out of the 1979 in the 72 cab just to keep everything "one truck" as much as possible.
100_1211.JPG 314 hits | 87.81 KB | Posted: 11/24/12 the bae metal is were the mount had been on the column, the black spot on the column is from the hole in the mount bracket.
100_1210.JPG 296 hits | 83.28 KB | Posted: 11/24/12 I had to use the steering column from the 79 in the 72 cab for some reason, i forgot, but it was an easy swao once I drilled the spot welds and moved the mount up the column so it would bolt to the cab crossmember in the dash.
