This was not the car I was looking for. I inherited this 03 Crown Vic from my father in law, Warren, at 14,000 in 2008. He had an appreciation for things that last & i'm pretty sure he bought this car with the vision of me driving it as I sell wines in Northern California. Warren selected the LX model with leather bench seat, air suspension & all the options.
I did not appreciate the at first but it grew on me in terms its ability to quickly navigate coastal roads with 15 cases of wine in the trunk. That said, I once did pack the car with almost twice that many cases (36lbs ea) & drove it 80 miles for a delivery. Less than a year later I had to replace most of the rear end.
Since I did not buy this car, I'm compelled to keep it running. Aside from the rear end, I've repaired the climate control system twice & had to sort out some transmission issues along the way.
The car still rides in a solid, powerful manner without rattles, squeaks or derivations but this week the air suspension system gave up & the rear end has sunk to a level that makes it un-drivable.
I'm at a cross road here & would rather repair than replace this asset. I do not drive it for resale value but for its utility. My logic tends to assess the total I spend in keeping this car running vs the cost of car payments & increased insurance rates for a newer car.
Can I get an Amen/
