I bought this car in 1998 after looking for a Galaxie for a few months. I wanted a 65-67 Galaxie because I like the big Galaxies and after seeing a few 65's and 66's at the car shows I decided to get one for myself. I found this 67 and was very excited to go see it, so I dragged my sister along and went to go buy the car ( I knew I was going to) and brought it home. I discovered there were quite a few things wrong with the car...largely electrical and that the car was a fire hazard, a bomb waiting to go off. I took the car to a guy out in Romeo who only works on old Fords and he made a non fire hazard for me as well as fixing my turn signals and lights. Over the years I have been doing things here and there with the car to make her more my own. First I went out and got a nice set of Cragars (14" front, 15" rear) Then I started work on the motor. The electric fan died so I put a conventional fan back in (it didn't have one when I bought it) and a smaller electric fan on the outside of the radiator. I got a Holley 750 carb given to me so I rebuilt that and put it on, then got an air cleaner off a 70 Ford and put it on the car. I use two fuel filters on it, one from the carb to the fuel pump and the other from the fuel pump to the gas tank. It helps keep her running clean for now. There is also a filter in the fuel pump itself. It's off an earlier Ford. I took the radiator out and cleaned it and put it back, fixed the tranny lines going to it so they wouldn't leak anymore, changed the solenoid, the starter and electrical box, starter solenoid, the fuel line and some other small stuff. This year I did a lot in and on the car. I cleaned and overhauled the interior. I replaced the broken instrument cluster and bezel, put in a new CD player onder the dash, fixed the power windows so that they worked with the convenience package box, put in bucket seats fron an XL, the deluxe XL interior package door and rear panels, which I found out are pretty rare, lucky for me I found them. Put a console in the middle for holding drinks, CDs and various other things, cleaned the carpet up nice and installed seatbelts from an XL. In the engine compartment I rebuilt the the carb again, replaced the fuel pump gasket and installed an over flow tank for the radiator and a new horn. On the exterior I fixed the front part of the hood and painted it, then replaced the hood letters which had been missing for years. Replaced the left lower yellow high beam with one I filched off my 59 truck, replaced the the outside driver mirror with a working remote mirror ( for some reason when I bought the car the cables were cut off and the glass was loose and held in place with putty, yuck! It also was loose on the car and rattled). I then cleaned the chrome tips on the tailpipes and then fixed the dents and bad repair job on the trunk. I had to repaint half of it. I then replaced the broken trunk lock. Next year I will finnish fixing the exterior problems and replace the manifolds and have the valves ground. Oh, I also had to put in a kill switch and a set of hood locks because my A***hole neighbors were messing with my car this summer. They took the return spring off the carb and then stole the oil cap. Idiots! I did a lot more this summer because I wanted to have it ready for the Galaxie Club of America Nationals which were being put on my local club chapter Motor City Galaxie Club. I had fun seeing the other Galaxies, especially so many more 67's in one place! Will add more as I get more done. |
