| 0.00 | 11/14/05 | Modification | 132300 | LeBra on for winter! I picked up a LeBra car bra for 93-97 Probe GT/SE off eBay and this will protect my front end from salt chips this winter. It installed really easy and the car sill looks good. | 60.00 | 11/12/05 | Modification | 132300 | Installed HotShot CAI downpipe I picked this up from a buddy in the Outlaw Imports (MX-6) club. It was designed to route around the coolant hoses of the automatic transmission, and I must say it screams compared to the ProbeAddiction CAI downpipe that was on there before. Flat out better design and craftsmanship! | 0.00 | 11/10/05 | Maintenance | 132100 | Adjusted Throttle Position Sensor So there's this thing called the TPS that sends the engine computer the exact position of the throttle plate with respect to it being closed all the way. If it's out of adjustment, the car will not idle or accelerate properly because it will create a bad air/fuel mixture.
So here's what I did.
-grounded the TEN and GND pins in the small Diagnostics box under the hood (with an insulated paperclip.
-turned the ignition to the ON posiiton (without starting the car)
-Loosened both 7mm bolts holding the TPS onto the throttle body using a small socket.
-rotated the TPS UP until the cooling fans turned on (VERY SLOWLY)
-found the exact point (down a bit) where the fans turned back off and tightened the sensor back down
-turned the key to OFF then pulled the paperclip and closed the diagnostics box.
-fired her up! started better, warmed up better, idled better, accelerated better.
My car never ran this good before!! Best of all, it was FREE! | 0.00 | 11/09/05 | Maintenance | 132100 | Adjusted Height of Headlight Covers (when closed) I noticed that my red headlight covers weren't sitting flush with the rest of the body at all 4 corners, so i removed both headlight surrounds (2 phillips screws, 2 clips) and loosened any necessary 8mm bolt under each corner to adjust the corner's height up or down. 15 minutes later, my headlight covers sit perfectly flush with the hood, fenders, and front bumper cover, with an even gap above the bumper cover all the way around! | 0.00 | 11/01/05 | Repair | 132000 | New Moonroof Panel Seal Mine was painted red by the previous owner, so I picked up a new used black one and slapped it on. Works and looks great! | 15.00 | 10/01/05 | Modification | 132000 | Purchased High Enegry Ignition module The HEI mod, as its known, replaces the ignitor within the distributor so that if your ignitor fails, you won't have to replace your whole distributor. This, in turn gives you unlimited ignition power (better than stock) and saves you at least 200 for a new or reman. disty.
I have not yet installed this. | 20.00 | 09/15/05 | Maintenance | 131900 | PCV replaced Seeing the "KL01" on my PCV after 60K miles on the motor, I decided to replace the PCV valve. The PCV was being blown out a couple mm by internal pressure inside the crankcase, so I bought a Deutsch PCV from AutoZone and tossed it in there. No performance difference, but we can't have objects being pushed out of their grommets can we? | 2.50 | 09/01/05 | Maintenance | 131800 | Oil Change / Fuel Filter Replacement / Engine Flush Decided to change to 10W30 instead of 5-30 for the end of summer. Engine flush was precautionary to clean out excess deposits, and the fuel filter might have even been the original 123K filter that my old bad motor was using. Cheap replacement! | 100.00 | 08/01/05 | Modification | 131000 | Purchased 1995 Tails ('no outline I have decided to remove the burgundy outline from a set of 1995 Ford Probe Tail Lights using non-acetone nail polish remover. The project. went great, and they are now sitting polished with Mothers waiting to go on.
However, I won't mount the lights until I get a new hatch (current one is dripping rust onto my lights). | 80.00 | 07/01/05 | Repair | 131000 | New Alternator AND Battery Well, my car began to not start after 5-6 tries, then not start at all shortly thereafter. The car would run once I got it started, but would not start a few minutes later. Lucky for me it was not the distributor but a bad battery AND alternator. The battery wouldn't hold a charge, and the alternator wouldn't charge the battery. So $400 later, my electrical systems are sitting pretty. My ignition system, however, may need some attention. | 400.00 | 06/23/05 | Modification | 129800 | Gunmetal stock PGT wheel project embarks! As part of my ongoing restoration project, I've always wanted to get an old set of stock PGT wheels and paint them gunmetal. So yesterday I bought a set from a ProbeTalk member and they will be arriving in less than a week. What I intend to do is clean them with an abrasive pad and degreaser, sand them down a bit with a fine-grit paper, and then use a total of two cans of Dupli-Color Wheel Coating, then one can of clear coat. The lips will be masked off during the process. When finished, I will take the wheels up to the service garage while I'm at work, and have the guys take the tires off my ugly aluminums and put them on the PGT wheels, rotating them in the process. This will give my car a sharp new look for cheap and extend the life of my good tires. | 200.00 | 06/23/05 | Modification | 129800 | Fog Light Mod Project Begins Today, I kicked off my fog light modification plans by purchasing a set of Pilot 1055C driving lights (fit the stock fog light brackets perfectly) and a new set of OEM fog light brackets (mine are broken). The eventual plan is to be able to have the fog lights running only while the parking lights are turned on, making the use of the hideaway headlights optional. | 60.00 | 06/15/05 | Repair | 129500 | Purchased New Clockspring (for steering wheel) My GT has a bad clockspring, because the horn works intermittently, the airbag control module got shorted out, and the cruise control does not work. But the only thing I really need a new clockspring for is getting the cruise control back. I'm going to replace it at my leisure because there are no long trips planned yet | 35.00 | 06/05/05 | Maintenance | 129000 | Interior Deep Cleaning / Repairs Took the front seats out, cleaned the seats, cleaned and lubricated the adjustment assemblies. Then I brushed and vacuumed the carpeting, then "Resolved" old stains that were there before I got the car. Everything came out really nice! I then deodorized and disinfected everything. Amor-alled all plastic panels and cleaned the windows. TIghtened the rear-view mirror so it doesn't jiggle during driving. Washed the exterior and Armor-Alled all vinyl black exterior pieces. Chrome-polished the Borla exhaust tips! | 0.00 | 06/05/05 | Repair | 129000 | Cleared Moonroof Drainage System I had a lot of water coming in through the headliner when it rained, so I cleaned the Moonroof assembly, and then cleared the drainage system. Problem solved! Writeup here: http://forums.probetalk.com/showthread.php?t=1701159916 | 0.00 | 05/31/05 | Repair | 129000 | PA Inspection/Emissions, Left Axle Replacement, EVP sensor replacement, Radiator Cap/Hose Replacement Finally got that CEL (check engine light) fixed, and the car inspected. 'Nuff said. Just glad I had a spare EVP sensor laying around, saved me 500 bucks of buying a new EGR valve with an EVP sensor on it. | 400.00 | 03/30/05 | Maintenance | 127650 | Installed Performance-rated Spark Plugs and Wires Over the winter, I bought some NGK ZFR6F-11 spark plugs and some lightly used Probesport Racing Development (PRD) plug wires. I got all the stuff for under 80 bucks! Then I just popped the old stuff out, which I found to still be in good condition. Oh well. BTW, the Haynes manual overdramatizes the procedure. It's really easy. It's not hard to get the plug wire boots off the plugs. And You don't need to buy a 10 inch extension to get the rear bank plugs out. You just need a 6" and another that's at least 4" long. | 73.00 | 02/06/05 | Modification | 126400 | Added Warm Air Intake Finally got my AuxioXTC cold aid intake after more than 3 months due to a mistake. Since I need a torx bit to get the splash guard loose and a small PVC extension in order to mount the filter on the cold air downpipe, I'm going with the upper half of the intake for now. It works great. Even without the coldest air, the car is 1.5 times as peppy as it was before! | 149.95 | 01/02/05 | Repair | | Gauge Cluster light reconfigurement Since the Check Engine and Airbag lights "weren't there", I moved bulbs from low fuel light and "anti-theft" into their spots. Now the CEL is flashing code 16 for improper EGR vacuum and the airbag light is flashing a code 51 for blown fuse due to intermittent short to ground. The EGR code will be taken care of before PA emissions time in May! | 0.00 | 01/01/05 | Repair | | Replaced Burnt out Bulbs Replaced underhood bulb, trunk compartment bulb, left rear brake light bulb. | 10.00 | 12/31/04 | Maintenance | 125695 | Oil Change / Air Filter Replacement Pennzoil 5w30 synthetic blend oil put in and air filter changed. | 66.25 | 12/17/04 | Modification | 125379 | Replaced Catalytic Converter and Exhaust system Put a Borla exhaust and Magnaflow cat on the car 12/17/04. Sounds nice, looks nice, flows a bit better. Having looked under the car during brake replacement, my exhaust system from the cat back to the pipe tips looked a bit worse for wear. Mainly rusty with black oil soot coming out of the welding joints. | 700.00 | 10/28/04 | Repair | 124259 | Replaced Motor with one from 94GT Well the car was sold as described: "Strong Runner". Then I noticed that oil consumption was somewhere around a full case every 3,000 miles. It smoked at startup. It smoked at the bottom of hills. The back of the car was turning black. I would later discover it had a missing distributor O-ring, which only made oil loss worse. Solution - new motor! I ordered a 94GT motor with only 50,965 miles on it, in great shape. Motor $750. Install, including timing/accessory belts $1025. I should have taken pictures of the old motor out of the car. It was SHOT. | 1,800.00 | 10/13/04 | Maintenance | 123821 | Replaced Brake Components About 4 months after purchase the handbrake decided to stop working, and the brakes were soft and grinding a bit. Upon inspection, all the components were more or less worn out and caked with rust and frozen from sitting for the year before I bought it. So I said screw it and went for pads, rotors, calipers, and a fluid flush. | 850.00 | 06/08/04 | Miscellaneous | 119221 | Bought Car Got it from PROSPECT AUTO SALES. Turns out later they ripped me off because they removed the Check Engine Light and AIrbag light, both of which were flashing trouble codes. Shame these guys and ELITE motors are both Pittsburgh area dealers that like to sell Probes and HIDE their problems... | 3,000.00 | 05/31/04 | Repair | 119221 | Replaced Dead Battery, PA Inspection On the used car lot, the battery wasn't holding a charge, so it was replaced. The car was then inspected and it passed. Read above for my beef with this! | 0.00 | Total | 8,021.70 |
