02/23/05Modification120705Body Lift final mods.
OK some im all finished actually putting in the body lift, so now for the minor modifications. First off i had to put on some bumper brackets, to ones with the kit were crap, so I made some myself, really easy to do and they only required a little trimming on the bumper to fit, nothing a sawzall couldnt handle. Next for the back bumper, a couple of weeks ago I built one out of 1x11/2" tubing with a diamond plate cap to cover the tubing, I built this in such a way so that I only had to flip the bumper upside down to fit on the truck like it was before the lift. Tho only other thing to modify was the transfer case shifter, with the lift it was jammed up against the plastic moulding that held down the rubber boot and was stuck in 4wheel high,so I cut out a corner of the moulding and that freed up some room to shift the t-case

with the help of a couple of friends I put in a 3" body lift within 4 hours, we went down to a local gas station and bribed to guy there to break the body mount bots loose for us with air-powered impact wrench, cost about $10, drove it up to my shop and put the rear end up on our hi-lifts to put in the blocks. OUr plan was to go from rear to frontone side then the other, but we decided to go rear to front on both sides at the same time. to put the blocks in we simply lifted the part of the body that was resting on the mount just enough to clear the block the set the body down on it and tapped the block into place with a dead-blow hammer to be able to put the bolt through. The only blocks that we had trouble with were the very front ones, since it was very cramped and the bolts that came with the kit did not have enought threading to put the nut all the way on, so we tried the stock bolts and they reached just fine with enough threading and the body was finished. Tomorrow I will do the fron and back bumpers and any other modifications that are needed, such as clearing room for the transfercase shifter, which is the only thing that needs modification, all the radiator hoses and the shift cable stretched alright and did not need extensions.

I built a ew back bumper using 1/8x1/11/2 tubing welded into a rectangular frame its fairly simple just a rectangle with diamond plate bolted onto the outside to make it "purty"
building it was easy I just had to buy some tubing and cut it to size with a bandsaw and mig- welded it together, drilled some holes for the diamond plate bolts. Cut the diamond plate to size and put it on and I was finished it was $23 for the tubing and $21 for the diamond plate
