I've had a 3g alternator in my rig for at least 5 years. It's a huge improvement over the fire prone factory 2G and it is a relatively easy swap. 3G alts can be found in T-birds and Tauruses, even Mustangs of similar years with V6. It should be noted that after '92 Ford changed the mounting brackets. The factory 3G came in a 95 amp or a 130. The one on my rig is a 160.

Benefits are more power for accessories and better charging.

The unit I'm running came from the now defunct RJM technologies and uses a 2 5/8 inch pulley and the 8.25 pivot on the alternator casing.
