These grommets are responsible for the shifter's action, against the transmission lever. The originals were dry & shrunken, causing a lot of play in the linkage, so new ones are going in. I wasn't sure if there was any wear on the bar or pins, so I also bought new sleeves to go in the grommets. Turns out, they weren't necessary, but they were only about a buck apiece.
The real trick is getting the clip pins back in with the new rubber, UNDER the truck. I'll install the rear one here on the bench. But I didn't want to pull the trans shift lever off, so I'll have to do that one in-chassis.
