starter-relay.jpg The problem with placing both the Starter Motor and Starter Solenoid wires on the switched side of a 3-Post Starter Relay is it may induce "Starter Run-on", the same as when you incorrectly jumper the terminals directly on the PMGR Starter Solenoid. This ends up being no different than a jumper wire or busbar between the Starter's Solenoid and Motor. Keep in mind this is different than your old Direct Drive Starter as the new PMGR utilizes a Starter Mounted Solenoid in addition to the Fender Mounted Relay.

This is why I use a 4-Post Starter Relay, to separate the Starter Motor (on the Switched Side) and Starter Solenoid (on the "I" terminal). The "I" terminal also receives switched 12v power with key-on and is then isolated from the main "M" switched side of the Starter Relay with key-off. This in turn isolates the PMGR Starter Motor and PMGR Starter Solenoid.

With a 3-post Starter Relay, the proper way to wire your PMGR is to move the heavy gauge Starter Motor cable from the switched side of the Starter Relay to the Battery side of the Starter Relay (or directly on the Battery ). Then install a 12 gauge wire between the switched side of the Starter Relay and the small terminal directly on the Starter Solenoid. Your Starter Relay will be less stressed from the large Starter Motor Load and the Starter Motor and Solenoid will be isolated with key-off.
