Notes: |
This truck started off as a $400 beater.Had 4" sus and 3" body lift with 35's.Drive was in good shape but body was Fred Flintstone bad.Decided it was just easier to replace the body than repair it.As it was torn down to the frame, started cleaning things up,and ended up turning from a 'make things more solid'into a full restoration.Ditched the old sus. for a 6"superlift,with new rad.arms.I broke an original, the stud snapped right offinside the bushing it was so rusted. The donor body ended up being a 95 cab with 40,000 miles on it,got it for $500.Has zero rust but needs the drivers quarter replaced.Stuck with the stock front clip which is all brand new, accept the hood. The interior was a challenge,as an 81 and 95 fire wall are very different.Had to cut alot to use the 81 heater box, accomidate clutch linkage and so on.I swapped in a 93 dash, which i had to modify the 81 instrument cluster heavily to make fit,and to have all the factory lights illuminate in their proper place.Almost every electric component has been replaced, had to rewire alot, all new brake lines, calipers, fuel tank-which sprung a leak while swapping bodies. The body mounts where replaced with energy susp.,along with new poly bumpstops.Got a set of 38.5x14.5 Superswamper SX's,and Bushwacker cutout flares.Like many projects,my trucks gotten sidelined for other things,it's been almost 3 years since the project started, but finishing isn't that far off.Still need to put in the new rear springs, front bumper, headlight trim, then replace the rear quarter, install the rear cutouts, doors, tailgate, and finish off the interior, which i'm still undecided on.My other motor and trans aren't going in until it gets some use first.Hopefully i'll be ready to roll this spring. |
