I am looking at putting some aftermarket seats in my truck and want to know what options are out there.
Something like a Recaro etc. that can provide good comfort and support, but no too firm to make for a rough ride.
Suggestions? |

How could you possibly want to change out the nice big leather recliner-quality seats in the X? All it's missing is the footrest.
I think Flexsteel makes replacement seats for Ford vans...but not sure about the X. |

I can't say I've been overly excited about the seats in these things. Suburban seats are always so much more plush. Anyone else agree?

E.Long....I agree.
In fact I don't think the seats in any of Ford's recent trucks any better than mediocre. Very little support.
Yes I think the Chevy seats are much better. They have more contour and offer better support and adjustability. The sides are adjustable in and out to fit both thin and wide body types. Although it seems every Chevy truck I get into with leather seems to be worn away, even low mileage ones.
I don't understand why the domestics can't build quality seats. They just don't seem to realize that firmer (not stiff) seats with proper support are better in all areas. Seats that feel great when you first sit in them (in the showroom) are the ones that will give you a back ache two hours into a long trip. I have a feeling the American public falls into this trap all too often.

I have to say that I'm constantly shifting on a long road trip to stay comfortable. Some days, I just can't get the 6-way power seat to be "just right" and it's an uncomfortable trip. The 6-way is nice, but I think it's a little limited at times.
A friend has an Audi A6 and I would have to say that the contour of those seats are very nice. I haven't been on a long road trip in that vehicle, but the head rest and seat back mold perfectly to my huge, muscular frame (hah).
The Excursion seat, while 6-way adjustable, is like sitting on a flat board with a flat back. No contour at all.

Yeah, the Luxer model is what I'd been looking at. Pull the seat, install the Luxer over it, reinstall. Pretty simple, but that doesn't guarantee I'll like it. Excursion seat is a bit like the Mercedes seats, very firm, stiff back, designed to keep your posture at the expense of your butt.
I drove a Suburban for years, always thought the seat was too soft. Best I ever had was a '93 Bonneville with the 8-way adjustable seat. Set it & forget it no matter how far the drive.
I'm pretty close to buying the Luxer seat; if I do, I'll let you know what it's like. Eric, you can take it for a drive if you like. Don't think we live that far apart.

I like the seats in the X for the most part, it can get a little uncomftorable in the lower back on long trips though. I have never really liked the seats in the GM products but I use to have a Lexus LX 470 & that had the most comftorable seats ever.

well,,,I still hafta say I actually like the big Ol' X's wide and tall seats in my LImited...
but I'm kinda wide and tall too,, at 6-5 and 285#....I've sat in some cars in the past with the nice padded thigh holders and I just don't fit my big arsed self in there too well. I had a towncar a couple of years ago that was mucho bueno.
too each his own, I say...
I drive about 90 minutes to work and 90 minutes home every dang day across Dallas/FTW...but I still like the factory butt shelves, even for a short 7-11 coffee run.
adios.!! |
