Before. you go and f- your good hood. Go to www.carhoods.com
The hoods are fiber glass and about $430. They are built for
cowl induction and ram air and they look sweeeeeet!
If your not going to wheel in your rig,it may be
worth it. Then you can sell the hood and get some
money back. Put your hood on www.2bbrockymountian.org/wwboard/main.php
and it will most likely sell to a wheeler that met a tree or a
"Can-opener"
If your are gonna wheel, Forget it, Trees and rocks hate fiberglass.
Been there, Done that.

Yeah, I considered a fiberglass hood, but I have a good spare one that I bought for $50, and I drive more off-road than on-road in the Bronco. The one on my Bronco now is full of hail dents, so that's the one I'm planning to "modify". If it works out, I'll just save the spare for when a tree jumps out in front of me! I'm just trying to keep the cost of the add-on scoop down to $100 or less. I've found a few places that sell a fiberglass repop of the shaker scoop, like on a 69-70 Mustang or 70-71 Torino. It's either that, or trade the Bronco for a '70 Torino SCJ!!! |

Here's another idea I had today. Someone suugested I construct an "airbox", to which the shaker top plate can be mounted to. I put some pics in my gallery here at superford.org, under the engine section. I made a rough composite of an airbox out of the radiator shroud from my 88 parts Bronco, and I think that would work. I may try to find a smaller shroud from a ricer or cut down my current one due to space limitations. The box can only be 8-9" tall, 14-15" wide, and 18"long, and must be angled towards the front of the motor, without hitting the AC compressor or any hoses. |

By chance, I caught that episode of TrucksTV this weekend. Stacy put a Keystone shaker hood kit on a 2002 F-150 FX4, along with a supercharger and some other stuff. The shaker was functional, but routed the air thru the hood to the air filter on the driver's-side. Over the past week, I did some more searching and fiddling with the airbox idea, and found that the air filter box from my 88 parts Bronco is about the right size and height. I think I can mount the bottom half to a carb plate bolted to the carb, with another complete box mounted ontop of that, and then the shaker scoop ontop of that, with some support bolted to the AC compressor bracket. (Still working on internal porting, sealing the end holes, and ducting for normal airflow.) This moves the scoop location forward, upward, and over to the center of the hood. WIth that all worked out, I only need to cut the hole in the hood and add some bracing to keep it straight. It's going to take about 6-8 weeks to get the scoop and top plate, and the lip that goes around the hole in the hood. I'll keep y'all posted!!! |
