Just purchased a 2005 P71 with really bad paint and headlight issues, so I thought I would remove headlights, side markers, grill & rear lights and have the car repainted. While it was in the body shop I ordered new headlights, side markers & grill to up date the old weathered lights & cracked grill.
I had issues with the headlights not coming on or going out while driving before striping the car for a repaint ? I was thinking its a LCM after doing some reading on the forum, but got the car back two days ago and installed new headlights and side markers and noticed headlights are coming on and staying on. I took the car out tonight after dark and noticed the headlight are either way out of adjustment -pointing down to far or they got so dim they don\\'t shine light more an a few feet from the car ?
I also noticed the license plate light and both clear lights at the rear of the car are out, I plugged and unplugged it a few times to see if the connection was tight and still nothing. I\\'m thinking fuse ? bulbs ?
or LCM ??? Taillights and turn signals are working fine. If anyone has any pointers for me on adjusting front headlight and diagnosing the rear light that aren\\\\\\'t working - I would very much appreciate your help. Thanks Bill Miller

The headlight issue(going out, not coming on) could still be the LCM, it just had a rest while the car was being painted and isn't acting up now. I had a 2005 P71 and repaired the LCM with an external relay less than a year after I got it, never had a problem in the 3 years after. The external relay mod isn't too hard if you can solder.
The reverse lights and license plate light are all in that one harness, does your trunk release button work?
For aiming go to YouTube and search, "how to aim headlights" Basically you put the car on level ground in the dark and aim at a pattern on a flat wall in front of the car, there are 3 adjusters on the back of each light.
Were your old lights properly aligned? You can remove the adjusters(2 screws) from those and transfer them to your new lights so the aim will be the same as on your old lights. |
